Student Support
Each School or Faculty at ECU have their own Student Support Officers. These officers have the most up to date information for students enrolled in their courses.Kurongkurl Katitjin's Indigenous student support officers provide assistance to Indigenous students at the Mt Lawley, Joondalup and Bunbury campuses and students studying externally. Their role is to assist any Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student who needs help when they begin university and with any problems that may affect their studies along the way.
Indigenous Student Support Officers are here to listen, encourage and support you as a student and individual to become an independent learner and to feel confident accessing the various university services and understand the processes and procedures that affect your studies.
When you first start at university, you may experience information overload and feel a little lost about what to do, where to go and even where to start. ECU have posted a copy of the ECU Student Guide 2010 to you in the mail. This is a great resource to keep with you and read through often as it gives detailed information about studying at university.
From our experience though, as soon as possible, students need to;
Get their Student ID Card which is used as your Library and multimedia card and also as a Transperth SmartRider. Most importantly, you are required to produce your Student ID Card (or Drivers Licence) when you sit an exam. External students can also obtain a Student ID Card, however they can also use a drivers licence as proof of identity if they don't have a Student ID Card.
Remember your ADS Login and password in order to access the ECU website and login to the Student Portal from anywhere at any time.
Access SIMO to obtain your "Booklist" and buy any "Prescribed" book on the list asap. (Note that the list may show different books for on campus and off campus students. Always make sure you buy only the ones listed under your campus i.e. ML or JO or ES.
Access your Student Email for important information ECU has sent you.
.
Access Blackboard (MyECU) and check out your Unit materials, modules, lecture notes, e-reserve and messages from your lecturers etc.
Semester starts for most students the week beginning Monday 22nd February. To see when you start, check the 2010 Academic calendar under important dates here.
Lastly, the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS) administered by Kurongkurl Katitjin provides eligible students with a tutor to help with their studies. There is no cost to the student. Check it out by clicking on the link at the top left of this page titled "Tutorial Assistance (ITAS)
